Conditions of Entry 2012

To be Staged at the

Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 28th March ~ 1st April 2012

Carlton Gardens – Melbourne

Competition Entry

Entries will only be accepted from financial members of the RHSV or the direct family, from a group affiliated with the RHSV or a school or youth group.

Entries are to be received by the 31st October 2011

Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the RHSV Committee.

Entries must be staged in the Basket and Liner supplied.  No other basket or liner combination will be eligible.

Numbers of entries permitted are:

A         An Affiliated Society, Group or Club – one entry.

B         An Individual RHSV Member – one entry

C         Members under 15 years of age          – one entry

D         A School/Youth Group                        – one entry/class

E          A Family Membership may apply for TWO entries.

F          A Family Membership with children under 15years of age may apply for an entry for each person  (4 baskets max).

Plants must be living and growing in the potting mix within the basket.

There must be at least one living plant in the basket entry.

There are no limitations on the plant materials used.  It is not necessary that seedlings be used. Accessories may be used but must be complimentary to the basket design and not predominate.

Sections

The entries will be judged in the sections as follows:

1                 Best Exhibit – RHSV Affiliated Group

2                 Best Exhibit – Individual RHSV Member

3                 Best Exhibit – Under 15 years.

4                 Best Exhibit – School/Youth Group

5                 Best Exhibit – Colour

6                 Best Exhibit – Texture

7                 Best Exhibit  – Innovative Presentation

8                 Best Exhibit – Representing a specialist plant or plant group

9                 Best Exhibit – Culinary, Herbs, Kitchen.

10              Best Exhibit – Australian Native Plants

11              Best Exhibit  - Cacti & Succulents

Staging of Entries

Due to a change of circumstances and for best presentation entries will not be received at Scotsburn Nurseries. Exhibitors are to deliver their entries to the competition site at the Exhibition Carlton Gardens, Melbourne.

Metropolitan Entries:  These entries are to be delivered to the competition site on Saturday 24th or Sunday 25th March 2012 between 10.00am to 4 pm.

Entries will not be received at Scotsburn Nurseries.

Country Entries: It is preferable that local arrangements be made to get the entries to the competition site on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th March 2012 between 10.00am to 4 pm. The RHSV may be able to facilitate this action. Please contact the Secretary.

Entries will not be received at Scotsburn Nurseries

If necessary, entries will be collected from country centres. The Secretary must be notified by the exhibitor no later than the 12th March 2012 if they are doing this.

Entries collected in this process will be subject to an all care but no responsibility policy.

General Entry Management: All entries will be “staged” by the RHSV. Competitors will not be allowed into the competition site unless with specific permission of the RHSV and the MIFGS management.  This is an OH&S requirement for your own safety.

After 4pm Sunday 25th March 2012 only RHSV Committee members or their

appointed representatives will be permitted to maintain the baskets for the duration of the show.

The baskets will be cared for during the show on the basis of all care and no responsibility.

The RHSV will take all reasonable steps to maintain the exhibits in as good a condition as possible.

The baskets will remain on display for the duration of the show.

No entry may be removed from the site without the permission of the RHSV Committee or the appointed representative.

The RHSV Committee reserves the right to remove an exhibit without notice or reason.

Judging of Entries

Judging will be in accordance with the AHJA Judges Manual.  It is suggested that exhibitors may want to purchase a copy of this manual through the AHJA at

www.austhortjudgesassoc.org

The decision of the judges is final.  No objections will be considered.

Collection of Entries at the End of Show

Entries are to be collected from the competition site at the conclusion of the show.

Baskets can be collected after the show on Mon 2nd April between 10am – 4pm and on Tues 3rd April between 10am and 1pm.

(Access to the competition site after the exhibition is relatively easy and should not deter exhibitors. Please discuss with the RHSV Secretary).

Please note the MIFGS Management have conditions relating to removal of exhibits prior to the conclusion of the show. This will be formalised nearer to the event

Baskets will not be returned to Scotsburn Nurseries after the show.

Baskets not collected by 1pm Tues 3rd April 2012 will be disposed of in a manner approved by the RHSV.

If entrants require their baskets returned a charge of $30/basket applies. (This is the cartage cost incurred by the RHSV). If the baskets are to be returned this way the Secretary must have payment of $30/basket returned before the commencement of the event.

Awarding of Prizes

Trophies, Awards and Prize Money will be presented at the RHSV Conference to be held in June 2012. Winners of sections are expected to attend.
